CRM 101: Why Every Growing Business Needs One (Even a Small One)

5 Mar 20265 min read

A CRM doesn't have to mean an expensive enterprise system. At its simplest, it's just a place where every enquiry is tracked instead of living in someone's inbox or memory.

Spreadsheets work until they suddenly don't

A shared spreadsheet is fine for a handful of leads a week. Once enquiries come from multiple sources — website, WhatsApp, phone, walk-ins — a spreadsheet stops being a system and starts being a place things get forgotten.

Follow-up is where deals are actually won or lost

Most sales don't close on the first contact. Without reminders tied to each lead, follow-ups depend entirely on someone remembering — and busy weeks are exactly when that fails.

You can't improve what you can't see

A basic CRM makes it obvious which lead source actually converts, how long deals take to close, and where in the pipeline things stall. That visibility is usually more valuable than the automation features that get marketed harder.

Start small, add automation later

A simple pipeline with statuses and reminders is enough to start. WhatsApp automation, lead scoring, and integrations are worth adding once the basic habit of logging every enquiry is already in place — not before.
